Full Description:
Meet at 6pm at the police substation, 501 Rainey Avenue. Call 732-2441 for more information. This program is for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement. The Explorer Post is a part of the Boy Scouts of America's Learning for Life program. Its purpose is to provide experiences that will help young people mature and become responsible adults while pursuing their special interests through the following
• Providing career training in law enforcement: Explorers learn patrol procedures, first aid, laws of arrest and leadership. They take field rides with patrol officers and participate in an annual Explorer Academy and local, regional and national competitions.
• Providing social activities: Explorers take out-of-state trips and attend sports events.
• Providing community services: Explorers help direct off-street traffic parking, control crowds at parades, perform administrative duties at briefing stations and work on neighborhood cleanups and crime fairs.
• Providing leadership training: Explorers gain a sense of pride in the community and country and learn individual responsibilities.
• Providing training for personal fitness: Explorers take part in weight lifting, trying the academy obstacle course and running.
• Providing outdoor activities: Explorers backpack, take hiking adventures and go camping.
